A new vibratory gravimetric metering feeder was introduced at the recent K 2007 show by Brabender Technologie (North American office in Mississauga, Ont.). Its DualTray Feeder consists of two or more cylindrical feed modules, each with a semicircular feed tray across half its cross-section. The modules are arranged so that the vibratory feed trays overlap and feed in opposite directions. Material flows downward in a zig-zag path across the trays without segregation, according to the company. Flow rate is controlled by variable vibration. Halting the vibration stops the flow instantaneously, Brabender says, suiting feeder to precise batching. The feeder has no rotating components, so it cannot damage fragile bulk materials. It can handle pellets, powders, lumpy materials, and fibers. Standard models feed up to 1 cu meter/ hr, but Brabender has just built a special model for five times that rate.
