TCU Handles Direct and Indirect Cooling
Time: 2008-12-18
Indirect and direct cooling control from a single water temperature-control unit (TCU) is a new feature in the Tempro Plus C line from Wittmann Inc., Torrington, Conn. The new Duo cooling feature (reportedly a first for plastics) significantly boosts the cooling capacity of the TCU by allowing for rapid and total exchange of process water by cooling water in the system.

Indirect cooling is suited to mold temperatures from 200 F to 320 F, where it provides greater accuracy (±0.2F). For lower temperatures (68 to 200 F), direct cooling provides more than double the cooling capacity of indirect cooling. Direct cooling also allows for "crash cooling" of the mold to a safe temperature for maintenance. The Cool Direct function can be activated to switch automatically from indirect to direct cooling at a preset temperature.
